This time i am focusing on Symbian and Windows Mobile Platform.
Symbian
Well Nokia acquired Symbian in 2008 and tried to turn this OS which run on roughly 330million Smart Phones into a Open Source Project. The money Nokia is spending on Symbian seems like they are not going to let loose this Platform whose market is severely damaged by Iphone and Other arising mobile Platforms.
Experts say that still Symbian has the Masses to rule the Smart phone market if correct steps are taken which shall create a tough competition for Iphone, especially in USA.
Concerning Symbian Development the site symbian.org has alot to offer.
- The SDK is available for free download along with tutorials to get you started.
- Language for development is C++.
- Requires Visual Studio with Windows Mobile SDK.
- Development Languages C++ and .NET
The good thing with Symbian is that it is now offering support for the Qt Framework ( Qt is a cross-platform framework by Nokia ).
Developing for Symbian at the moment seems a gamble! But lets hope that Nokia takes effective step to keep the Platform alive and kicking.
Windows Mobile
Windows is losing the market share very quickly but due to the backing of big $$$, it will remain alive. Windows Mobile 7 will be launched soon and OEM’s like LG are using Windows Mobile platform. Not as promising as others but their market share matters.
