Facebook has decided to close its gift shop by August 2010 which was launched back in early 2007 as Hackathon project. Its a surprising move from the Facebook for its users and might be a sad news for many people.
The explanation given by a Facebook employee regarding the closing of Virtual Gift Shop is that they will be able to concentrate on other sides.

Moreover they say that it would help them improving other products and features including photos, Inbox, Comments, News Feed, Games etc
Facebook Suggests Third party applications for those who still need same gift sending features like Birthday Cards, Pieces of Flair, and Hallmark.
