The cassette is ALMOST obsolete? Where do you live? Burundi? And it’s always nice to see Bill Shatner…

Quibbles: the Radio Shack Color Computer had a 0.895 MHz processor. For another US$79 you could upgrade it from 4K to 16K of RAM.The !BM 5100 let you program in BASIC or APL.

“Apple dose it again” … Do you even read the shit you type?

My first computer was 100 mb hard drive….It had dos and win 3.1 in it and I think it was 128kb of ram..and room to add more..it had a 56kb modem and every single computer geek within 3000 miles envied me…It cost me 8000 dollars and I used it to create animations with the original Corel…

Wow you humans are quick when you compete with each other…it has only taken you 15 years to increase your computing ablities by over 60000 times…So when can I transfer my mind…????

Please dont comment pics.. never.. again. It seems you dont have skills for that. and give respect to stuff you dont seem to understand. These are beautifull part of history and i remember some of em pretty clearly.

Same way you laugh at your dad I laugh at the newbies like you which knows for the windowx xp and never heard of previous versions like famous 3.11, 95, NT 4, 98…

Remember one thing, you ll never expirience the joy, devotion and happiness @ PC like I ve expirienced with C64 and Amiga 25 years ago.

Why hasn’t anyone commented on the “iPhone” in the Apple ad yet?

  • Zexx

Today I have a computer with at least 10,000 times more computing power (counting multiple cores, SSE-3 and other goodies) than my first XT. But working on it isn’t 10,000 times faster. Sometimes not even 2 times faster.

    How can it be?
Because software is much, much slower today. Programming tools are wasting more memory and CPU cycles. Programmers are lazier. In the end, we’re constantly working on a PC-XT, only the graphics constantly improves.

How about the fact the advert appears to be an HTML web page (invented 1990) running in Safari (released 2003) when the Apple Lisa was released in 1983.

And there’s a link on there for Twitter – which didn’t come out until 2006.

The ZX80 came with only 1 kb RAM and 4 kb ROM.

The good old days of the Amiga and Apple IIe… where you could simply turn on the computer and start working immediately. Let’s see a modern PC do that!

I experienced that “jpy” and the only thing I’ve got to say about it is I’m glad it’s no longer 25 years ago.

  • Bryan

The ads do not need your extremely ignorant comments.

5K total, with just 3.5K available to the user. The rest was the OS. :-)

The VIC-20 and C64 were my first 2 computers… I remember them fondly, and hope the person who posted this article gains a little perspective soon!

  • jebivetr

well this is true i have a 3 years old computer and i have only cd player no space for cassette

  • TheWalrus

Some companies still backup to casette tapes because they’re cheap and they work, so they don’t have many reasons to upgrade to a newer solution. Some casettes today can even contain 1 TB, so it’s not completely obsolete. Yet.

“4GB RAM is 4000 times faster than 1MB RAM” !?

You should have a 5 year old proof read your comments.

    Better yet, don’t comment.

Wise men say “people only THINK you’re an idiot until you open your mouth. Then they know for sure.”
