iPhone used to consume less fuel while driving

A group of researchers at MIT and Princeton University are testing the best way to try to conserve fuel when you stop a car, for example at traffic lights, and when we leave.

The test involves the use of iPhone camera and GPS and a system called SignalGuru. GPS and camera are used to provide information to SignalGuru, which in turn advises the driver when to slow down, stop at what point and how to share this information with the car, thus saving fuel. The system was tested in the United States and Singapore, giving excellent results. Fuel economy provided by this system is in fact up to 20%.

We’ll see if this system will ever be marketed in a way that allows everyone to benefit.
