It has been several weeks since the final version of iOS 5 is here but its untethered jailbreak  is still not available for all users. The other issue important for many users is to jailbreak iPhone 4S which is currently impossible. Just like you, we are also desperate about the official word from the various hackers about the progress of untethered jailbreak of iOS 5. 

These months are not easy for Jailbreakers because Geohot  and  Comex are no longer here to support other hackers with their findings. This whole jailbreaking scene seems doomed since the two most important pillars of this community are no longer here.However, you must not loose any hope as an untethered jailbreak is still in the works and apparently there are more teams who are joining forces to release a new tool that allows the execution of a last and final stable release.

Hackers and teams currently working on the iOS 5 untethered jailbreak are:

MuscleNerd | Dev-Team

MuscleNerd  is the charismatic leader of the iPhone Dev Team. Over the years MuscleNerd and the Dev-Team have been developing two main programs, redsn0w and PwnageTool, providing untethered jailbreak for many versions of iOS.

The Dev-Team by MuscleNerd, confirmed to be working on the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 and also for iPhone 4S, which requires them to find a hardware vulnerability in the A5 chip developed by Apple. MuscleNerd has proven to be able to run the untethered jailbreak of  the iPhone 4S  (screenshots a little higher) but also seems to be in possession of a  vulnerability in hardware  which can be exploited to ensure a lifetime untethered jailbreak for all fifth generation iOS Devices.

As with any change that using the software works on hardware, caution is never enough. However, despite evidence that the untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 is possible on all iOS devices currently on the market requires further  extensive testing to evaluate that everything is working properly. If not, it would lengthen the release time (rightly) to develop a fully functional version of the jailbreak tool for the future that almost certainly will be once again Redsn0w and PwnageTool.

However, At the moment there appears to be the precursors for an upcoming release of the untethered jailbreak by the Dev-Team.

P0sixninja/Pod2G – Chronic-Dev Team

On the other side we find the Chronic Dev-Team . This is definitely the “youngest” group of hackers of the iPhone Dev-Team but was still able to meet the expectations of users by releasing one of the most popular iOS 4.2.1 untethered jailbreaking tool called Greenpois0n. This program was designed primarily by P0sixninja (the MuscleNerd of the Chronic Dev-Team) with the collaboration of pod2g, hackers who discovered vulnerabilities in iOS software that allowed Greenpois0n to function properly.

The Chronic Dev-Team announced they had found  five of software exploits in iOS 5, which would have allowed the execution of the untethered jailbreak of the iOS devices on the third and fourth generation during the MyGreatFest event in which there were all the best-known personalities from the world of the jailbreak. Exploits in software are the same as it has been said many times that it will work for “all, except for iPhone 4S and iPad” so instead you need a hardware vulnerability (already present and still used on the iPhone 3GS/4 and iPod Touch 3G/4G).

According to what has emerged recently that an exploit was found by pod2g , who announced that he has a bug that could make the untethered jailbreak of the iOS. However it is still unknown what are the projects of the Chronic-Dev Team for the untethered jailbreak of iOS 5. The team hopes to release an update to Greenpois0n as soon as possible, hoping that everything works properly and securely to users.

These and only these are known at the time, the teams who are working on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5 are real,  the only ones from which this untethered jailbreak will be released  (less than a sensational return to the characters rather well-known that this time, however, are excluded).
